FAQ

Can ICODE 3 RFID labels work with our existing ISO 15693 reader system?

ICODE 3 supports ISO/IEC 15693 and NFC Forum Type 5. Existing compatible HF readers may support basic tag identification, but advanced functions such as 212 kbit/s data transfer and NFC auto-mirror require corresponding reader and software support. We recommend testing samples with your existing system before bulk production.

What is the difference between ICODE 3 SL2S3003 and SL2S3103?

The SL2S3003 uses a 23.5 pF resonant capacitance and supports SELFAdjust technology for automatic RF performance adjustment. The SL2S3103 uses a 97 pF capacitance, designed for smaller antenna configurations. The appropriate version depends on your antenna dimensions and tag design.

What reading distance can an ICODE 3 RFID label achieve?

ICODE 3 supports ISO/IEC 15693 and NFC Forum Type 5. Existing compatible HF readers may support basic tag identification, but advanced functions such as 212 kbit/s data transfer and NFC auto-mirror require corresponding reader and software support. We recommend testing samples with your existing system before bulk production.

Can ICODE 3 RFID labels detect whether a package has been opened?

Yes, with the specific ICODE 3 TagTamper chip variant (SL2S3003TT) and a suitably designed tamper-detection antenna loop. It supports first-opening and current-status detection. This function is not available on every standard ICODE 3 label.

Can ICODE 3 labels be pre-encoded before delivery?

Yes. User memory can be programmed according to your data requirements, with supported settings such as memory locking, password protection and counter configuration.

Is ICODE 3 suitable for product authentication and anti-counterfeiting?

ICODE 3 supports a customizable 32-byte or 48-byte ECC-based originality signature, which can be verified by a compatible reader system. It also supports password-based protection. For projects requiring AES-128 cryptographic tag authentication, NXP ICODE DNA is a more appropriate option.

What information should we provide when requesting custom ICODE 3 RFID label?

Please share your application, required label dimensions, product surface, target reading distance, preferred label format and estimated order quantity. For projects requiring pre-encoding, also provide the data format and reader requirements. This helps us evaluate the chip variant and antenna construction before sample development.
